Oahu’s Best Beaches – Part 1 (North and East Shores)

Hawaii, with its gorgeous turquoise water and white sand beaches is total paradise! It’s a vibrant, beautiful beach destination and for that reason it was my first choice for our honeymoon location this past September. The island of Oahu was the first stop on our 2 week Hawaiian vacation. In this post I’ll briefly outline the absolute BEST beaches that Oahu has to offer, from the touristy beaches to the ones off the beaten path. We’ll start with the North Shore and East Coast beaches and in Part 2, we’ll work our way through to the West or leeward coast of the island.

North Shore Oahu:

These beaches are very popular for surfing and huge waves. While beach hopping on the North Shore, don’t forget to make a stop at Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck for lunch!

Waimea Bay

Parking is a challenge! Be patient and something will open up. There’s also Waimea Bay Nature Reserve across the street.

Sunset Beach

The place to watch surfers in the off season and a great snorkeling spot in the summer.

East Coast/Windward side:

Kailua Beach

This was my favourite beach of the whole trip (Oahu and Maui). We went to dozens of beaches on both islands but nothing compares to Kailua Beach. It had the whitest sand, the most turquoise water and a little area to relax and wade in to take a break from the waves.

Halona Bay Beach Cove

This beach is off the beaten path. Located just south of Halona Blow Hole and down some steps , you’ll find this small, secluded beach cove.
