Cannon Beach is what true Pacific Northwest beauty is all about! When my husband and I were planning our drive down to the Oregon Coast, Cannon Beach was at the top of our list of places to visit. Its most well known landmark is Haystack Rock (pictured below) and it’s one of the most picturesque beaches in the Pacific Northwest, in my opinion.
Cannon Beach is about a 7 or 8 hour drive from Vancouver, Canada. On this particular trip, we stayed in the nearby town of Astoria which is about a 30 minute drive to Cannon Beach. I love the town of Astoria because of how cute and quaint it is, definitely worth a visit! Also, it’s where the movies The Goonies and Kindergarten Cop were filmed! We visited the Oregon Coast in April and despite how warm it may look in the pictures, it was cold! I recommend bringing a jacket year round because on the coast, you never know what the weather will bring.
Things to Do Around Cannon Beach
The town of Cannon Beach is cute but small with only one street of shops and restaurants. If you’re looking for more of a big city, it’s only about 1.5 hours drive to downtown Portland. I’ll likely do a separate post about downtown Portland, however I feel like I can’t not mention this next place in this post. It’s THAT good. If you are planning on venturing into Portland during your visit, a stop at Salt and Straw for ice cream is a must. The best photo-op along Cannon beach is of course, Haystack Rock! It’s equally gorgeous both during the day and in the evening as the sun is setting.
